Law Library Assistant
Clackamas County Law Library

Location: Clackamas County Law Library, Oregon City, OR

Duties include but are not limited to:
1. Collection Maintenance: File updates, loose leafs, pocket parts; shelve supplements and new acquisitions, re-shelve books, maintain shelves, re-shelve materials left on tables and desks.
2. Reference Assistance:  Assist Law Librarian with providing legal research and reference assistance to judges, attorneys, county/court staff and litigants.
3. General Office Maintenance:  Maintain computers, copy machine, fax machine, laser printer, and telephones and shelving system; ensure machines are operational, refill paper and toner cartridges; maintain stock of office supplies and inform Law Librarian of needed supplies.
4. Maintain and compile patron usage statistics.
5. Assist the Law Librarian as needed; compile user charges for copy fees, bill according to procedure and collect fees; enforcement of Law Library policies and procedures; supervise the Law Library in the Law Librarian’s absence; open and/or close Law Library according to procedure.
6. Process Inmate Requests from the Jail through Corrections staff, according to established procedure using online legal subscription databases.
7. Maintain conference rooms calendaring; follow and enforce Holman Law Center Conference Rooms Policies and Procedures.
8. Assist attorneys and judges with circulation procedures; maintain circulation box and records; call or email attorneys regarding overdue materials.
9. Annual inventory of collection and reporting.
10. Process mail according to established Law Library procedures; enter invoice and catalog information in computer; prepare materials for bindery.

 

Qualifications:

This is a great opportunity for someone with a MLS or JD degree who seeks part-time employment.  Competitive candidates will have: at least one year of library experience (law library preferred); library knowledge with ability to read call numbers and complex pagination; ability to perform repetitive tasks, paying careful attention to detail; ability to communicate well with patrons of a diverse background; prior legal research and reference training; computer assisted research knowledge; basic math and accounting abilities; familiarity with law library classification; advanced computer skills including knowledge of Lexis/Westlaw, Word and Outlook; familiarity with case law retrieval and be a self-directed, independent thinker with ability to follow procedures and direct patrons regarding law library policies.
