Interim Librarian
First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue

This job description includes a list of all duties related to the librarian, which exceeds a 4 hour/week time frame.  Prioritization and timelines of librarian duties will be clarified between the Interim Librarian, Associate Pastor for Christian Growth and Library Team.

TITLE:                       Interim Librarian                                                                      
STATUS:                    Temporary, Part-Time, hourly
HOURS:                     4 hours/week for six months beginning as soon as possible
SUPERVISOR:          Associate Pastor for Christian Growth

PURPOSE / FUNCTION:
The Librarian provides leadership and professional expertise to direct the ministry of the FPCB Library in order to foster Christian maturity and biblical literacy through maintaining a relevant collection and promoting library services.

JOB DUTIES:

Manage library operations
  • Develop and maintain library information systems (with I.T. staff) following library best practices including cataloging, circulation, public catalog and website resources.
  • Provide reference services to church staff, congregation and community.
  • Manage library volunteers including recruitment, training and supervision.
  • Manage annual library budget to provide for collection development, processing materials, publicity expenses and volunteers.
  • Collect and report key library statistics. 
  • Manage display of materials, signage and layout of the library to maximize collection size, direct patrons and maintain library environment.
  • Maintain professional expertise (memberships, training, etc.) and develop specialized knowledge in church libraries, theology, bible study and Christian resources.

Manage collection development for the library

  • Maintain appropriate and relevant materials including de/acquisitions and donations.
  • Catalog materials utilizing standard librarian practices.
  • Keep abreast of media format and delivery developments.
  • Develop and refine library policies and procedures as needed (e.g. Collection Development, Memorial Gifts…) and respond to questions/concerns.
Develop and promote library programs and outreach
  • Develop and implement library programs in consultation with supervisor and Library Committee possibly including Literary Night, media display tables, church newsletter/website content, book groups, etc.
  • Develop mediographies on specialized subjects for church programs as appropriate.
  • Network with other libraries to maximize collection and outreach possibilities.

Participate as a member of FPCB staff

  • Meet regularly with Christian Growth pastor to review Library ministry.
  • Participate in staff meetings, events and opportunities as appropriate to role.
  • Ensure library ministry is aligned with church mission, vision and goals.
  • Pray for library program and volunteers.
  • Other duties as directed.
