Library Circulation Aide
French American International School

Start date: August 25, 2008
Hourly rate: $12.50, 32 weeks a year, .75FTE with health insurance

The FAIS library is a dynamic and busy work environment with a multilingual collection. It is serves a lower school and a middle school.  Essential duties of the Circulation Aide:

  1. Process, sort, organize, and shelve assigned library materials including books, magazines, DVD’s etc.
  2. Perform circulation duties including checking books in/out, receiving hold requests, collecting and processing fees for lost/damaged materials, and answering incoming phone calls
  3. Maintain student, teacher, parent, data  in library database
  4.  Provide help to students, teachers, and parents, respond to general inquiries, locate library materials
  5. Perform daily shelf reading; monitor, arrange, straighten, and shift library materials
  6. Process and maintain periodicals including catalogue data entry and display
  7. Perform basic collection maintenance duties including deleting discarded library materials, pulling books off the shelves for repairs
  8. Assist t Librarian in receiving book orders, special events and programs, book fairs, etc.

Required skills: excellent knowledge of contemporary administrative practices, data entry, MS Office Suite, record keeping, filing, etc.; excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work cooperatively; patience with children and the general public.

Essential qualifications: one year of college and previous library experience
Preferred qualifications:  Associate’s Degree, knowledge of French and experience with working with children
